Our prime hunting grounds in western Zimbabwe are Matetsi Safari Area Unit 2 and Kazuma Forest Area.
MATETSI UNIT 2
Accessed from Victoria Falls by an 18 minute helicopter flight or 2 hour drive to camp the Matetsi Unit 2 concession is 80 000 acres in extent. It was an area that the legendary hunter and explorer Courteney Selous hunted and roamed in the 1870s.
Habitat on the concession varies from large open vleis , mopane woodland , river lines, natural springs, flat top hills to thick teak forests on the gusu ridge in the north west.
The Matetsi River runs through the length of the concession as well as other smaller rivers passing through it , the Tshabolisa , Tsankaruka and Guyu all ensuring year round water for the wildlife .
World known for its trophy quality of Elephant, Leopard and big black maned Lions it is also one of only two areas in Zimbabwe where a permit is granted for the hunting of a Roan antelope. Herds of in excess of 20 animals are regularly seen from camp.
The concession is maintained to ensure the wildlife and habitat are protected by grading roads, burning and creating fire breaks, recently we have repaired a dam on the Matetsi River as well as installed 2 solar pumping units at selected wildlife drinking points.
The area is wild, remote, un-fenced offering hunters true fair chase hunting in classic Africa . Both PHs Guav and Johnnie Johnson have won numerous awards for trophies harvested in these areas.
Matetsi Camp
The camp is beautifully located on a small hill overlooking a typical Matetsi vlei. The camp consists of three thatched rondavels all with bathroom ensuite. The camp has mains electricity with a back up generator. A separate thatched bar, dining area and fire pit face west giving the most incredible views of the sunsets.
