Mangwe South
Wilberforce Ranch is located in south western Zimbabwe and is accessed through Bulawayo International Airport. The drive time to the ranch and old Munro's homestead from Bulawayo is approximately 2 hours.
A unique and constantly developing conservation partnership with communities and landowners in the Mangwe South area has enabled us access to 5 properties amounting to 30 000 acres.
The properties are at the most south western extremity of the Matobo Hills range. An area of great natural beauty with large granite dwalas and kopies dominating the area , interspersed with Mangwe sandveld , Mopane woodland , Dychrostachs thickets , small river lines , natural seeps and springs.
At the onset of the partnership in 2019 , wildlife was thin on the ground as a result of subsistence poaching. With a presence in the area and thorough anti-poaching efforts it has been incredible to watch the wildlife slowly come back. In 2023 we reintroduced Wildebeest , Giraffe and Impala and in 2025 we will be bringing in more Wildebeest , Impala and Warthogs.
The properties are home to an incredible diversity of wildlife ranging from Klipspringer , Bushpig's, Brown and Spotted Hyena, Zebra and Aardvarks to Elephants in the drier months. The area is however , most well known for its exceptionally large bodied Leopards.
Our annual quota here is comprised of 2 Elephant bulls , 1 Leopard , 1 Brown Hyena ( one of just a handful of tags issued in Zimbabwe ) , Black Mambas and various general plains game. Both rifle and bow hunters can be accommodated here.
The properties are also steeped in history with numerous sites of San cave art in the granite hills , rock engravings and sites showing metal works by the early inhabitants of the area.
Located on the property is the site of the Battle Of Singuesi ( 1st November 1893 ) in which the hunter / explorer , Frederick Courteney Selous was wounded , on horseback whilst assisting troops and wagons retreating into the lager on the Singuesi River.
Accommodation at Wilberforce Ranch is rustic but comfortable. Munro's Homestead is situated atop one of the prominent grantite dwalas , looking north , offering an incredible panoramic view of the surrounding area.
The homestead consists of a renovated cottage, for the hunter, with an attached en-suite outside shower and toilet under the starts. The homestead and cottage has solar lights and charging facilities.
Woodstove cooked , home style 3 course meals are served under the stars or on the covered veranda and evening drinks are enjoyed around the fire pit.
We work closely with landowners , community members from both Dukwe and Mapolisa village to ensure that the benefits from conservation and hunting make an impact and can be seen and felt in the surrounding area.
This includes drilling of boreholes , installing solar pumps and tanks , installing hand pumps , establishing vegetable gardens and orchards , training on agriculture practices , refurbishing livestock handling facilities , supplying materials for the refurbishment of old fence lines for grazing paddocks as well as employment from the community on the property and in our camps.
Check out below, the award winning " WIRE & WATER " documentary filmed on the property in 2022
